
STEĆCI
Stećci are defined as stone tombstones from medieval period on area of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and Croatia. hey are the country's most legendary symbol. They are recognizable by decorative motifs on them and writings– epitaphs. Many of those motifs and writings remain enigmatic to this day.

Stećci weigh about 30 000 kilograms and they have different shapes and types. Average stećak is 2 meters long and 1 meter wide. Today there are about 69 356 known Stećci in existence found at 3162 locations, among all recorded Stećci, relief motifs were found on fewer than 6,000 and the inscriptions on fewer than 400. On 2 November 2009, the government ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro agreed to nominate the Stećci as their shared cultural heritage to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
